Maanantaille on luvassa N 6-8 m/s upeissa turkoosinvärisissä vesissä. Maininkia riittää, kun pari päivää on puhaltanut reippaasti.

2015 Snipe World Championship: Argentinian Soubie-Lipszyc firmly in the Lead. Martinez-Utera (Esp) win Race 6 & are 2nd Overall, but it’s Tight @ the Top

The constellations of Spain and Argentina continue to shine brightly at the Snipe World Championship underway in Talamone Tuscany organized by the Circolo della Vela Talamone. After 6 races and one discard, Luis Soubie–Diego Lipszyc (ARG) are in the lead with 26 points (4-6-8-3-(11)-5). However, four teams follow in a two-point range, so expect some serious on the course jostling on Friday! Second, Alvaro Martinez-Gabriel Utera (ESP) at 43 points. (16-(84 OCS) - 15-6-5-1), Belgian Manu Hens-Victor Perez Campos are third, also with 43 points. Augie Diaz - Kathleen Tocke (USA) are in fourth position at 43 points whereas Mateus Tavares-Gustavo Carvalho (BRA) are in 5th place at 44 points.

Hard day on the water for the Race Committee, chaired by Fabio Barasso. Due to the wind shifts that oscillated between northerly Tramontana in the morning and northwesterly Mistral that could not settle in the afternoon, only one race was completed.

“The Race Committee did a commendable job today under very trying conditions. The wind was not only oscillating 10-20 degrees, but also changing in velocity during the race from 10-20 knot puffs. After several attempts for a second race, it was decided to postpone to ensure the sailors would all have better conditions tomorrow”, stated Jerelyn Biehl, Executive Director of SCIRA (Snipe Class International Racing Association. “Argentinian Luis Soubie & Diego Lipszyc are sailing well and consistently. With the first discard counted, there is a 3-way tie for second and with all chances for more races, a second discard, which will keep things interesting”, Biehl added.

"We came here to race as well as we possibly can and must be able to handle every situation," stated Luis Soubie back on the dock. “Today the wind was very unstable and it was not easy to handle. I believe that the Committee made the right decision by abandoning races that could have been distorted by excessive wind shifts. We have a good lead and the Spaniards who won today could close the gap. We must continue to be focused: the championship is long and there are many races to complete."

Best among the Italian crews, Franco Solerio (YC Sanremo) and Paolo Lambertenghi (CV Torbole), 12th overall after discarding today’s 33rd place.

After racing, the SCIRA Board of Governors met to determine future championships at the Club House of the Club Velico Talamone and to examine several proposals on race management for future events. “As several of the Board members are competing, this could be a long day for them, but it is important to have top sailors on the Board to make the right decisions for the class and fellow sailors,” explained Jerelyn Biehl.

In the evening, participants and residents enjoyed a jazz free concert "Saxophone Colours - from Paris to Buenos Aires" organized by the Associazione Culturale Kaletra, featuring the duo formed by saxophonist David Vallini and pianist Giuliano Adorno.
The World Snipe continues tomorrow with the possibility of completing up to three races. The warning signal for Race 7 is scheduled for Friday 25 September at 11 a.m.

2015 Snipe World Championship: Calazans-Seixas (BRA) win Race 5. Gale steals the show in Race 6, abandoned

– Heavy duty sailing and good seamanship were called for on day 3 of racing in Talamone Tuscany @ the Snipe World Championship organized by the Circolo della Vela Talamone. Race 5 was completed with Mario Calazans-Daniel Seixas (BRA) crossing the finish line in 1st position. For safety reasons, race 6 was abandoned when a gale swept through Snipe Bay with winds on the race course reaching 26-30 knots.

A good call by the Race Committee chaired by Fabio Barasso who could also count on the on-the-water safety team of the Circolo della Vela Talamone to ensure all 83 crews from 18 nations could return safely to shore. Spaniards Soto Valero-Belmonte Cuenca dismasted and were towed into port.

After five races with no discard, Luis Soubie – Diego Lipszyc from Argentina are still in the lead with 32 points (4-6-8-3-11). Augie Diaz - Kathleen Tocke (USA) are second at 43 points (12-5-7-15-4). Third place on the provisional scoreboard for Japanese Yuichi Oi-Noriaki Sakai at 60 points (18-29-9-2-2).

Back on the docks, Brazilian helmsman Mario Calanzas winner of today’s race stated “It was a very difficult race, with the wind changing in pressure very often. We were able to tack in the headers, sail close to the wind in the first beat which allowed us to round Mark 1 in the lead. Our speed downwind was excellent and we managed to keep our Japanese and Brazilian friends in check even on the last beat.”

Best Italian crew overall, Franco Solerio (YC Sanremo) and Paolo Lambertenghi (CV Torbole) who now rank 7th overall thanks to an excellent seventh place in today’s race (14-7-21-22-7).

In the evening a well-deserved Crew Party took place at the Race Village, whereas on Thursday 24 September the concert "Saxophone Colours - from Paris to Buenos Aires" is scheduled at the Hospitality tent. Starring in the free concert open to all organized by the Associazione Culturale Kaletra, the exceptional duo formed by saxophonist David Vallini and pianist Giuliano Adorno.

The World Snipe continues tomorrow with the possibility of completing up to three races. The warning signal for Race 6 is scheduled for Thursday 24 September at 11 a.m.

2015 Snipe World Championship: Day 2 ESP and BRA win today’s races in Talamone. Soubie-Lipszyc (ARG) in the lead overall

Day 2 of racing in Talamone Tuscany @ the Snipe World Championship organized by the Circolo della Vela Talamone with another two races completed. After four races, Soubie-Lipszyc from Argentina are in the lead with 21 points (4-6-8-3) followed in second place by the two-time World Champion Augie Diaz racing with Kathleen Tocke at 39 points (12-5-7-15). Third, Belgian Hens racing with Spaniard Campos at 46 points (9-2-25-10). Today’s races were won by Jordi Triay Pons-Lluis Mas Barceló (ESP) in Race 3 and by 18 and 19 year old Felipe Santa Rita-Luis Felipe Meirelles (BRA), who finished 2nd overall in last week’s Junior Snipe World Championship.

Once again Snipe Bay in Talamone, Tuscany delivered great racing conditions. After yesterday’s strong winds, the 83 crews from 18 nations cut the starting line with flat seas, sunny skies and a 9-12 knot westerly breeze. An extremely tactical race day, with wind direction fluctuations that were continuously interpreted to adapt the race course in the best of ways by the President of the Race Committee Fabio Barasso and coordinated by the Club Velico Talamone’s Vice-President Alessandro Testa.

The first race of the day, Race 3, was led for four of the five legs by the Japanese Sasai-Ishikawa, but was finally won by the Spaniards Jordi Triay Pons (Menorca) and Luis Mas Barceló (Mallorca) who were able to roll the Japanese from the left side of the course in the final upwind leg. Third on the finish line, Brazilian Alexandre Tinoco-Nicholas Grael Pelican, son and nephew respectively of Lars and Torben Grael.

At the end of Race 3, while still on the water, Jordi Triay Pons (ESP) stated: "The race was very hard with constant wind shifts and changes of direction that we were able to read well. The first three races have been won by three different Spanish crews. This is undoubtedly proof that the level of Snipe Spanish is very high. Let's see what will happen tomorrow".

For the second race, Race 4, the wind increased to 11-12 knots. First on the finishing line, the 18 year old Brazilian helmsman Felipe Santa Rita with 19 year old Luis Felipe Meirelles. The two ranked 2nd overall in last week’s Junior World Snipe Championship. Next on the finishing line, Japanese Oi-Sakai and third Luis Soubie-Diego Lipszyc from Argentina.

The best Italian crew in the overall standings is that of Enrico Solerio-Paolo Lambertenghi (YC Sanremo), 8th overall (14-7-21-22).

The World Snipe continues tomorrow with the possibility of completing up to three races. The warning signal for Race 5 is scheduled for Wednesday 23 September at 11 a.m.

2015 Snipe World Championship: Two races on Day 1 in picture perfect conditions. Spain steals the show in Talamone Tuscany

The Snipe World Championship organized by the Sailing Club Talamone could have not started in a better way. Blue skies, crystal blue water, the Islands of Giglio, Elba and Montecristo etched against the horizon served as a backdrop to Day 1 of racing. The Mistral wind at 13-15 knots for race 1 increased to 17-19 knots for the second race. Ideal conditions for the 83 crews from 18 nations who arrived in Maremma Tuscany to compete for one of the most coveted world championships of international sailing. Borras Camps-Bats Años (ESP) lead the provisional standings of the Snipe World Cup #snipeworlds2015 with a third and a first.

The excellent organization of the Circolo Vela Talamone ensured that all crews were ready to race on schedule. Once out on the water, the Race Committee presided by Italian Fabio Barasso had its work cut out for the day! The first race that started at 1 p.m. was abandoned due to a notable wind jump to the left. A clear sign that the Mistral was preparing to fill in, as it did later in the day. This allowed competitors to race on an Olympic triangle course sailing between the Argentario and the Maremma National Park. Picture perfect conditions that enhanced the Snipe fleet performance to the max.

The Spaniards were the true stars of the day. Race 1 was won by Andalusian Raul de Valenzuela and Antolin Alejandre de Oña, who won of the Junior World Champion title three days ago. Es Castells (Balearic) formed by Damian Borras Camps and Carlos Bats Años won Race 2. Given the wind and sea conditions, both races were extremely physically demanding. Crews returned ashore exhausted but at the same time exhilarated by the breathtaking sailing conditions on Snipe Bay.

Among the Italians, good result for Enrico Solerio and Paolo Lambertenghi, who crossed the finish line 7th after leading at the end of the first triangle and losing positions after offloading a penalty for touching mark 2 mark. Solerio-Lambertenghi (14-7) are the best of the Italian crew in the overall standings. The young crew from the hosting Circolo Vela Talamone formed by Lapo Savorani and Federico Milone finished in the first half of the fleet.

"Talamone is a beautiful town," stated Damian Borras Camps once back on the docks. "Today was very hard- The wind though, despite the oscillations, still seemed to have its own logic. We are very satisfied because with the third placement in Race 1 and a first placement in Race 2 we are currently at the top of the leaderboard. Tomorrow is another day", Borras Camps concluded.

2015 Snipe World Championship: 83 Teams from 18 Nations are ready in Talamone Tuscany for Serious Sailing & Serious Fun

On Sunday evening, the Opening Ceremony of the Snipe World Championship hosted by the Circolo della Vela Talamone was held in Maremma, Tuscany. The #snipeworlds2015 will take place from the 19th to the 26th of September. The 83 teams from 18 nations in representation of over 130 yacht clubs paraded through the ancient village of Talamone from the lighthouse and Yacht club to the race village. In the early afternoon, over half the fleet took part in the Practice Race under sunny skies and a northwesterly breeze at 14-16 knots with the Islands of Elba and Giglio serving as a backdrop.

Invited on the podium by the vice-President of the Circolo Vela Talamone Alessandro Testa, at the Opening Ceremony SCIRA Representative Gweneth Cook from Canada said: “Grazie to Italy and to Talamone for doing such a great job and hosting the Championship. I am thrilled to have such a wonderful turnout and on Behalf of the SCIRA Board, I wish all competitors an good week of sailing and excellent racing”.

The Commodore of the Circolo Vela Talamone Ammiraglio Sergio Biraghi then took the floor to thank all those who worked so hard to make the event happen. “We have been working for this event for 2 years and none of this would have been possible without the dedication and passion of all our staff who are here to make you stay as enjoyable and possible”, Biraghi stated.

The Mayor of Orbetello Monica Paffetti wrapped up the official speeches thanking all 18-nation representatives for having made the trip and wishing participants fair winds. “May the beauty of the surroundings resonate with the purity of your spirit of competition”.

SCIRA Representative Gweneth Cook declared the Snipe World Championship officially open and in the evening, all participants enjoyed a buffet “aperitivo” with local wines and food delicacies while taking in the sunset over the bay of Talamone.

The warning signal for Race 1 is scheduled for Monday 21 September at 1 p.m.

On the starting line: Argentina (7 teams), Belgium (6), Brazil (9), Columbia (1), Croatia (1), Denmark (1) Ecuador (2), Finland (1), France (2), Great Britain (1), Japan (7), Norway (2), Poland (3), Spain (12), Sweden (2), United States (9) and Uruguay (1). Italy is represented by 16 crews in the Snipe World Championship.

Front-runners for the 2015 Snipe World Champion tile include Augie Diaz (USA), two-time world champion, Luis Soubie (Argentina), Alexandre Tinoco (Brazil), Raul de Valenzuela and Jordi Triay (Spain). Among the outsiders, Italians Solerio-Lambertenghi, Poggi-Vanni and Argentinians Agustin Zabalua and Miguel Costa.
